I have gotten myself an ADK for Christmas and presently going through learning the Android platform, and hopefully kickstart the contest that Keith and I wanted to do years ago, with 2 bots, 3 totems with a button and a light (tri colour LEDs), have bots race agaist the clock, and each other, to score as many points as possible on a "T" shaped arena. Enjoy Gary Ps. We (Keith and I) want to invigorate robot building, and while a complex challenge like "Domination" (rules based off the UT GOTYE) is a bit much, we are scaling this down to a round table with empty drink cans, (or beer bottle caps might be better *wink*), and cleat the table as quickly as possible, without falling off. Who'd be up for that? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Table sizes will vary, so plan for this. As Keith and the guys drink plenty of beer, we'll use beer bottle caps as the target item to remove off the table. 10 caps will be randomly distributed on the table, and you can start the robot anywhere on the table. The person who does it the quickest, wins! I'm going to aim for end of February, or sooner if you prefer? Contest has been moved back to April 28th, 2pm at Next Window, level 3 Don't forget that we will be hosting the same contest every 3 months, so even if you can't make it in time, or would like to have more tries at the task, you can. - Table will be 1.2m, and is white - Table will not have a black edging - You can start anywhere you like on the table - Only your robot is allowed to physically move an object, ie no explosives, projectiles or high level compressed air - Before "Go!", your robot must fit within a 150 x 150mm square, an empty ice cream container is a good measure of this - On "Go!" your robot can, if you want expand up to 300mm x 300mm square - At the end of the round your robot must fit within a 300mm x 300mm square - Round length is 2 minutes - Best of 3 rounds - Touch penalty while completing the task will add 15 seconds to your overall time - Bottle caps still remaining at the end of the round will add 15 seconds each to your overall time - Bottle caps will be painted red - Bottle caps will be upside down, ie, the cap top will be what touches the table. - Bottle caps must be completely off the table to score If you have any more questions, please ask and i'll attempt to respond in a timely manner. As usual the full details of the contest are posted here http://www.tangleball.org.nz/wiki/index.php/Table_Top_Robotics Cheers Gary From grogyan at woosh.co.nz Tue Jan 31 20:20:08 2012 From: grogyan at woosh.co.nz (Gary) Date: Wed, 01 Feb 2012 14:20:08 +1300 Subject: [Robonz] Robot building Message-ID: <4F289348.1030601@woosh.co.nz> Hello everyone, Tim from MindKits has offered a discount for those wishing to build bots with parts on offer fromMindKits. The discount code for participants so they can get 10% off - that should help support you while you build. Use 'buildbot' on checkout and 10% of the purchase is on Tim. If there is a particular part that you would like MindKits to offer but don't as yet stock, just send him an email. Just a full 3 months to build from today. I will also be on hand at the Arduino Meetup, Tangleball Makerspace most Tuesday nights and at RoboNZ. Have fun bot building.
