I’ve been working on a nifty robot control board (http://www.mindkits.co.nz/store/kits/the-mindkits-brainboard) with Tim from MindKits, and after a few late nights pulling everything together and getting the production run done in time for Christmas we now have some up for grabs! We designed it to get you started building a robot or in a few minutes without needing too much else, so if you can think of a good project idea to put it to use reply back to me with a short description (1-2 paragraphs) and we’ll pick the winners on Monday, then post you a board (post also free). In return winners just need to send us a 1-2 page project writeup (with photos, good for padding!) or 1-2 minute video that we can put on our site to show off your project + our board, within two weeks of receiving it. If you haven’t found time to do it in two weeks then you just post it back to us or buy it, so there’s no risk to you. Here’s a quick video showing a project I did in about an hour with BrainBoard + Android + Bluetooth to give you an idea where to start. I used the free Bluetooth RC Controller app from the Play store which reads the phone’s accelerometer / tilt sensor and sends commands over Bluetooth to the Bluetooth adapter and control board. Onboard motor drivers power the robot directly, so I just had to plug in the motors and program it. Brody -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Now who made the key combo for Send so easy to hit? Here’s the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72yxQF3xQD8), and the latest user guide and some high-res pictures (http://www.brodyradford.com/MKI/). Oh yeah, and BrainBoard is open-source hardware. And while it’s based on Arduino it’s just an Atmel AVR micro so you can use WinAVR / AVR-GCC or Atmel Studio, and decide between using the USB bootloader or an ISP programmer. It’s flexible. We’ve done a few quick projects like the Bluetooth robot that we’ll be publishing to the product page (along with the hardware source) soon so check back, or email me for ideas/help/hints etc. Right, I think that’s all... Back to working on those expansion modules. We should have 10-DOF, Bluetooth, IR, and microSD turning up in a couple of weeks if the PCB fab does their bit. My Project 1: Spy Robot. A small robot with a wifi camera on it, controlled from a phone and basically to use a intel for police etc. before entering a property. My Project 2: A phone controlled lock and opener. As the board has a inbuilt motor controller you can use this to connect it to a motor which can open a small door of a cabinet or a personal box, which can be locked by an electromagnet, also connected to the board. The board then can be connected to a phone app via bluetooth to lock/unlock or open/close the cabinet or other means. Thanks, Vandan On Thu, Nov 28, 2013 at 11:42 AM, Brody Radford wrote: > D’oh, someone revoke my geek creds already!
