I'm now at Crown Equipment, and there is some interest here in robotics competitions. We did get a bot together for the Digital Nations Bot Warz competition, although that competition was cancelled at the last minute. So I was wondering if there is a date planned for another competition? If there is, and there's enough time to prepare, then we might be able to get a couple robots in. I think the Auckland Uni club might be interested too, although we are now approaching their exam/holiday time. We definitely want to get another competition together. We have designed a new "H" course (see picture). it is built and ready to go. We just need to set a date and venue. I would always want to give 4 months minimum notice prior to a competition so people have time to prepare. I think Tim at Mindkits has some other events he would like to host with us too. We were trying to work with Digital nations but it was all too late to do something effective. Maybe we might be able to work in with them next year. i have been a little distracted lately building my 3D printer which I am please to say is now working www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfkB6idPDPU Cheers Keith -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Fourth months sounds like a good amount of time to prepare, so yes we might have a couple robots together by then. The 'H' course looks like a nice challenge; I think it will require a step up from the random walk algorithm we used last time! We will stay tuned to this mailing list for competition updates. We ran an introductory course with a few 2nd year students and they were keen to join the competition with a couple of robots as well. 4 months lead time would be perfect - we'll just follow the mailing list for any news, but count us in. Looking forward to meet everyone in person. Gary suggested March and I kind of like that. We should get a firm venue and date based on that. We will still run a single rectangle course and the H course so you can do both or whatever you like. Teams from around NZ will compete in a robot game and also be judged in several areas. The Nature's Fury challenge is quite topical given events in recent years both locally and overseas http://www.firstlegoleague.org/challenge/2013naturesfury What are we looking for? -Judges for project and core values. General knowledge is probably the only requirement. -Judges for robot design. Knowledge of LEGO Mindstorms is handy but general technical and programming understanding is all that's needed. -Robot game referees. Must be good dealing with kids in a diplomatic way and be comfortable standing several hours. Long arms are a bonus! We provide online training materials and judges are always paired. For those who have volunteered before you'll already know we look after you well J Please get in touch with me directly and feel free to forward this email to other who may be interested.
